UPDATE: The initial weekly Tuesday meeting has been DELAYED UNTIL OCTOBER 2. There is no meeting September 25.

Each year Briarmeadow participates in the Houston Independent School District’s Name that Book contests. The Name That Book (NTB) contests acquaint HISD students with contemporary and classic literature as well as contemporary award-winning books, representing a variety of genres. Most of the titles are new and are chosen from the Texas Library Association’s 2×2 and Bluebonnet lists.

The goal is for students to have fun reading, but Name That Book is also a competition. Students interested in participating in the contests should begin reading books from the appropriate NTB list (see attachment below). This list involves a significant amount of reading, so students are encouraged to get an early start.

There will be an informational meeting next Thursday, September 20th in the Library for interested 3rd-5th grade students. Beginning October 2nd, the NTB team will meet every Tuesday 3:45–4:45 in the library.

Final team selection will occur in late October/Early November, with the top seven readers earning spots on the competing team. Once the competing team is selected, members should expect to practice two times per week until the district competition in March.

Attached you will find the 3-5 book list and Name That Book rules.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

Thank you,

Ms. Mitchell
